“The tight and seamless result is something unique and emotionally resonant.”

- The Independent

Whatever gets You Through The Night exists in four forms

A live show
directed by Cora Bissett, premiered at The Arches in Glasgow in June 2012

A film
directed by Daniel Warren, premiered at Summerhall for the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe

A compilation album
released on Biphonic Records in 2012

A book
designed by Studio LR

All of the above were created from the same raw material – new work by over two dozen of Scotland’s most distinctive writers and musicians, all of whom were invited to create something inspired by the hours between midnight and 4am.

★★★★

“Not even the most hardened cynic could sniff at the ambition of this Vital Spark project headed up by Cora Bissett, who has invited writers and musicians from across the land to create work exploring the many Scotlands that exist between the hours of midnight and 4am.”
- The List

★★★★

“By turns desolating and uplifting, Whatever Gets You Through the Night is a tender and honest love letter not just to Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow but any big city from sunset, through the small hours to the dawn of day – a poem for its strangers and strangeness, little hopes and big dreams… a worthy and potent experience quite unlike anything else you’ll encounter at the Fringe.”
- A Younger Theatre

★★★★

“As a whole, Whatever Gets You Through the Night is moving, human and funny. Its final stroke of genius is that it finishes just after midnight, letting you out onto darkened streets that seem newly significant and suddenly beautiful.”
