Director

Voted one of The Herald’s Top 10 picks of the week and with 4-Star reviews from The Scotsman and The Guardian, The Burns Project is a theatrical production created by the National Trust for Scotland in collaboration with actor/writer James Clements. Supported by singer- musician Lisa Rigby who performs Burns songs as well as her own especially written compositions and directed by myself, the show brings to life the letters, poems, and artifacts of the celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns. Using recently digitized archival materials, Clements explores the complexities of Burns' life, illustrating both his cultural significance and personal struggles.

Reviews for The Burns Project

Broadway World Review

“It is a sign of the attention to detail in Cora Bissett’s excellent production. What could have been a by-the-numbers tribute to Scotland’s national poet is altogether more subtle, imaginative and contentious.”

— The Guardian

The Guardian Review

“A Burns Supper with a difference is the best amongst our critic’s latest round-up of theatre shows across the Fringe.”

— The Scotsman
